Local Area

The busy fishing village of Mallaig, with swimming pool and Heritage Centre is only 1.5 miles (3 minutes by car). This small town features a wide variety of shops and has a warm and friendly atmosphere.

Mallaig is also the rail terminus for the steam train from Fort William (summer months only). The West Highland Line is one of the most scenic in Britain.

It is only a short distance from the magnificent white sandy beaches for which the area is renowned, including Camusdarrach and Refuge beaches where Local Hero and Highlander were filmed.

A wide range of activities are available in the area with sailing, rowing and canoeing, as well as sea and fresh water fishing easily arranged. The local golf course is small but enjoyable. There are frequent ferry services to the Isle of Skye and the Small Isles of Eigg, Rum, Muck and Canna. A local ferry boat visits the small village of Inverie on the beautiful Knoydart peninsula, the Last Wilderness in the United Kingdom.
